Rescue in action

Grain storage fatalities account for a large percentage of agricultural-related deaths in the United States. Researchers at Iowa State University’s Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering are trying to find ways to decrease this number of fatalities.

ITec Club receives 2019 Outstanding ATMAE Student Chapter Award

Iowa State University’s (ISU)  Industrial Technology Club (ITec) received the 2019 Outstanding Student Chapter Award at the Association of Technology, Management, and Applied Engineering (ATMAE) Annual Conference, held Nov. 6-8 in Charlotte, North Carolina. Chair of ABE receives ATMAE Faculty Excellence Award

Friedmann recieves Excellence Award from Engineers Without Borders

Michelle Friedmann is a graduate student at Iowa State University’s Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (ISU ABE). Iowa State University Names New Director of Egg Industry Center

Richard Gates has been named director of the Egg Industry Center at Iowa State University. Gates, currently a professor of agricultural and biological engineering at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, will start his new duties with the center on Jan. 1.

Building STEM leaders: Cyclone Engineers mentor FIRST Robotics Team

Brian Steward, professor of agricultural and biosystems engineering, is the lead mentor of Team Neutrino, a FIRST Robotics Competition team for high school students. FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) was founded by Dean Kamen to inspire young people to pursue education and careers in STEM-related fields.

ABE celebrates two Engineers’ Week honors

The Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering took home two Engineers’ Week wins, recognizing the department’s outstanding efforts and enthusiasm for the annual week celebrating all things engineering. ABE was named Most Involved Department and won first place in the door decorating contest.

Charles Sukup appointed to faculty position in the Iowa State Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering department

The president of Sukup Manufacturing Co. in Sheffield, Iowa, has been appointed to a faculty position in the Iowa State University Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (ABE). Charles Sukup, who earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in agricultural engineering from Iowa State in 1976 and 1982, began a five-year, part-time appointment this fall.
