Richard Gates has been named director of the Egg Industry Center at Iowa State University. Gates, currently a professor of agricultural and biological engineering at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, will start his new duties with the center on Jan. 1.
Jacek Koziel, professor of agricultural and biosystems engineering, spent a month in Uzbekistan using his food, energy and water nexus expertise in the Aral Sea basin as part of the prestigious Fulbright Specialist Program.

ABE was named Most Involved Department and won first place in the door decorating contest.
The president of Sukup Manufacturing Co. in Sheffield, Iowa, has been appointed to a faculty position in the Iowa State University Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (ABE). Charles Sukup, who earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in agricultural engineering from Iowa State in 1976 and 1982, began a five-year, part-time appointment this fall.

Jacek A. Koziel, associate professor of agricultural and biosystems engineering, won two Publons Peer Review awards. He was ranked in the top 1 percent of peer reviewers in Environmental Science, ranking 35th overall in that category. Koziel was also ranked as one of the top peer reviewers for Iowa State University.
