Matt Swift, a materials engineering senior from Cortlandt Manor, New York, is among 15 students on Iowa State University’s Team PrISUm competing in the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge in Australia.
Team PrISUm is preparing to take its new “Solar Utility Vehicle” on a 1,900-mile race across the Outback of Australia. The Bridgestone World Solar Challenge is Oct. 8-15. Iowa State’s student-engineers think they’ve designed and built a car that can comfortably make that journey.

Charles Schwab came to Iowa State University 27 years ago because of the university’s reputation as one of the pioneers of agricultural and biosystems engineering. In his time in Ames, it has been Schwab’s goal to make farmers and their families safe while at work and play.
AMES, Iowa — Kent Corporation is committing $8 million, the Iowa Corn Promotion Board $4 million and Sukup Manufacturing Co. $2 million in support of a new Iowa State University College of Agriculture and Life Sciences educational and research facility for feed milling and grain science.
ISU CCEE students took 4th place in this year’s Engineering Student Design (Big Beam) Competition. The competition received 24 concrete beam reports. Each concrete beam submitted measured 22 feet in length. More teams compete by submitting designs alone (excluding the big beam).
