ABE professor issued patent for agricultural weighing device

Matthew Darr, a professor in Iowa State University’s Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering Department (ISU ABE), was recently issued a U.S. patent. Titled “Round Module Weighing Using Differential Pressure Sensing,” the patent was issued on Oct. 9, 2018. It was filed as U.S. Patent No. 10,091,943. NSF grant aims to train research-based graduate students for various career paths

ABE’s Koziel receives two Publons Peer Review awards

Jacek A. Koziel, associate professor of agricultural and biosystems engineering, won two Publons Peer Review awards. He was ranked in the top 1 percent of peer reviewers in Environmental Science, ranking 35th overall in that category. Koziel was also ranked as one of the top peer reviewers for Iowa State University.

U.S. News rankings: Iowa State 53rd among national publics; first in ag/bio engineering

AMES, Iowa – Iowa State University is tied for 53rd among 132 public national universities in U.S. News and World Report’s “Best Colleges” undergraduate rankings released today. Schwab: Providing Leadership for Agricultural Safety

Charles Schwab came to Iowa State University 27 years ago because of the university’s reputation as one of the pioneers of agricultural and biosystems engineering. In his time in Ames, it has been Schwab’s goal to make farmers and their families safe while at work and play.

$14 Million Committed by Kent Corporation, Iowa Corn Promotion Board and Sukup Manufacturing Co. for Iowa State’s Feed Mill and Grain Science Project

AMES, Iowa — Kent Corporation is committing $8 million, the Iowa Corn Promotion Board $4 million and Sukup Manufacturing Co. $2 million in support of a new Iowa State University College of Agriculture and Life Sciences educational and research facility for feed milling and grain science.

Schwab describes evolution of rollover protective structures

The American Journal of Industrial Medicine says a 2008 report indicates farmers and farm workers 55 and over are nearly twice as likely to die in farm accidents. Of those fatalities, Tractors accounted for 46 percent of those deaths. Fortunately, there are groups working to make tractors safer.
