Strategic plan investment at the Bioeconomy Institute may speed discoveries

Mechanical engineering doctoral students Sarah Tyree and Madeleine McMahon use a new gas chromatography machine in a lab in the Biorenewables Complex. A strategic plan award last year purchased several pieces of equipment that will expand research capabilities at the Bioeconomy Institute.

ME grad student completes his 4th RAGBRAI

While he could have just spent his summer in the comfort of an air-conditioned lab, mechanical engineering (ME) graduate student Nick Schnoebelen decided to brave the heat and trek more than 450 miles across Iowa’s northern terrain on his bike. Schnoebelen, a M.S. student in ME, recently completed his fourth full RAGBRAI route.

ME/HCI grad student to advance VR research with support from prestigious NSF grant

Roselynn Conrady, Ph.D. student in mechanical engineering (ME) and human computer interaction (HCI), has been accepted into the prestigious NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program. She is one of just five students from Iowa State University to receive this honor. The five-year fellowship includes three years of financial support including an annual stipend of $34,000 and a cost of education allowance of $12,000 to the institution.

PhD student Cicero Pola part of 2022-23 Brown Graduate Fellowship Program

Cicero is currently doing research on the design and analysis of graphene-based electrochemical sensors for the detection of relevant food safety and public health targets including virus, foodborne pathogens and food allergens. Among his achievements is his number of peer-reviewed publications. He has already published 22 peer-reviewed articles in high impact journals, 15 peer-reviewed articles since he joined Iowa State University, five book chapters, [and] one patent. These are all a testament of his dedication and research excellence.

A team of Iowa State University College of Engineering researchers recently experienced something that few ever will: a zero-gravity environment.

The Iowa State University Cyclone Football ‘Varsity’ Marching Band is performing during the 2018 Band Extravaganza. The drumline is equipped with lights that flash different colors every time they hit their drums and the crowd goes wild over the spectacle. This is when Jacob Schmieder, a trumpet player in the band, came up with a business idea.
