Iowa State College of Engineering receives national ASEE Engineering Excellence for Veterans Award

The Iowa State College of Engineering has received a 2018 American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) Engineering Excellence for Veterans Award. The award recognizes the College of Engineering “as a leader in helping bridge the gap between military and civilian worlds” and commends Iowa State for supporting Veterans as they transition to their engineering education.

Seven Cyclone Engineers received national and division awards from the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) recognizing their excellence in engineering teaching and research in engineering education.

2018 Dean’s Student Leadership Award recipients named

Three College of Engineering students have received the Dean’s Student Leadership Award for 2018: Natalie Hanson (biological systems engineering), Erin Mitchell (industrial and manufacturing systems engineering) and Steven De Alwis (mechanical engineering).

Cyclone engineering build team creates innovative disaster relief container for 3M challenge

Iowa State University engineering students have developed a new, practical and cost-effective way to drop medical supplies into a disaster area as part of the inaugural 3M Disruptive Design Challenge last week at 3M headquarters. Their air-drop container survived a 150-foot fall and water submersion, and was successfully repurposed as a stretcher.

Seven Iowa State University College of Engineering faculty receive prestigious NSF CAREER awards

Seven Iowa State University College of Engineering faculty have been selected for 2018 National Science Foundation’s Faculty Early Career Development Program (CAREER), the NSF’s most prestigious awards given to early-career faculty. The five-year awards total nearly $3.3 million and represent the first time that Iowa State’s College of Engineering has received seven CAREER awards in one year.

College of Engineering staff were honored and recognized on March 22 at the annual Professional and Scientific Council CYtation Awards breakfast. Employees were recognized with individual or team awards for professional excellence and outstanding contributions to Iowa State.

Three Cyclone Engineers elected to National Academy of Engineering

Three Cyclone Engineers have been elected to the National Academy of Engineering, an honor among the highest distinctions in engineering. Dennis A. Muilenburg (aero engr ’86), W. Mark Saltzman (chem engr ’81) and Charles E. Sukup (agr engr ’76, M.S. ’82) are honored for their outstanding contributions to engineering research, practice or education.

Dean Sarah Rajala receives national award for accreditation activities

Sarah Rajala, dean of the Iowa State University College of Engineering, is the 2017 national recipient of the Meritorious Achievement Award in Accreditation Activities from the Educational Activities Board of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers.
