Fireshark’s immersive game theater is like laser tag—only way, way better

Kent Johnson, founder of Wichita-based Fireshark Gaming and 1990 ISU electrical engineering graduate, came up with the idea for an immersive theater 18 months ago out of a desire to create something for his teenage sons to enjoy. “He has three sons, all in high school and middle school,” said Jake Williams, General Manager.

Chemical engineering alumnus named dean of Wichita State University Business School

Anand S. Desai, a 1975 ISU chemical engineering graduate, has been named dean of the W. Frank Barton School of Business at Wichita State University in Wichita, Kansas. He will take up the post in July, after the departure of interim dean James Jordan-Wagner.

Iowa leads in wind

At the end of the 2014 year, Iowa produced 28.5 percent of its electricity from wind energy, making it No. 1 in wind energy throughout the nation. Sri Sritharan, professor of civil, construction, and environmental engineering as well as associate head for graduate study and research says the state’s success comes from its ability to produce all three components locally.

Iowa State one of 128 teams to compete in worldwide computer programming contest

A team of three ISU computer programmers will be competing at the International Collegiate Programming Contest “Battle of the Brains” in Marrakech, Morocco from May 16 to 20. Tyler Uhlenkamp, Trevor Boone, and Jacob Smith were selected after a long process of challenges and trials to prove their programming abilities.

Iowa State bids farewell to graduating class of 2015

Three commencement ceremonies this weekend gave Iowa State over 4,000 new alumni. The Graduate college commencement happened Friday, with an address by Susan Lamont, C.F. Curtis Distinguished Professor in agricultural and life sciences. “I propose to you tonight that when you follow your own internal compass guided by your own personal set of wisely chosen and deeply hallowed values, then you will have a life of satisfaction and a life that will make a significant contribution to society and to the world,” Lamont said. “Because I know that 10 years from now it will make a difference that you graduated from Iowa State University.”
