George Mulholland is promoted to Senior Consulting Engineer of Raths, Raths, & Johnson, Inc.

CHICAGO, IL (March 11, 2016) Raths, Raths & Johnson, Inc. (RRJ), a national engineering, architecture, and forensics consulting firm, located in Willowbrook, Illinois, is pleased to announce that George R. Mulholland, S.E., P.E. has been promoted to Senior Consulting Engineer. An accomplished structural engineer with 28 years of professional experience, George is an expert forensic engineer specializing in the evaluation, investigation, and repair of distressed facades, buildings, and structures. Associated General Contractors (AGC) Student Chapter wins 2015 Outstanding Student Chapter of the Year Award

The Iowa State AGC student chapter recently received its 10th first-place finish as Outstanding Student Chapter. The award recognizes work the group completed in the Ames community, Tennessee and Nevada.

Iowa State’s Program for Women in Science and Engineering celebrates 30 years

Thirty years ago, the Program for Women in Science and Engineering (WiSE) was a fraction of what it is today. With initially only two programs – Taking the Road Less Traveled and a summer internship – the program now boasts several K-12 outreach programs, learning communities, study abroad opportunities and so much more.

Miller projects will advance undergraduate teaching

Five proposals for innovative approaches to undergraduate teaching will share about $51,000 in Miller Faculty Fellowship grants next year. The Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching, which administers the program for the president’s office, will supplement the Miller funds with nearly $8,000. Matching funds — which aren’t required — total nearly $36,000.

Iowa State alum wins Modern-Day Technology Leader Award

Derrick Stanley, an industrial and manufacturing systems alum, will receive a Modern-Day Technology Leader Award at the 2016 Black Engineer of the Year Awards (BEYA) STEM Conference held Feb. 18-20. The award highlights bright young men and women who are making strides in the STEM field and shaping the future of engineering, science, and technology.

E-Week: Celebrating the engineering community

A tradition that began in 1965, Engineers Week (E-Week) is a staple event within the College of Engineering, continuing to grow each year. E-Week is a student
organization that serves to celebrate the engineering field, the College of Engineering and its students, faculty, and staff. E-Week hopes to provide a way for students to build relationships with other students, faculty and alumni as well as network and increase professional development.

Brown Appointed to Iowa Energy Plan Working Group

BEI director Robert C. Brown has been appointed to the “Iowa’s Energy Resources” working group for the Iowa Energy Plan. The plan aims to set state priorities and provide strategic guidance for decision-making while working to encourage energy, economic, and environmental benefits. It’s a joint initiative between the Iowa Economic Development Authority and the Iowa Dept. of Transportation.
