Who was your most influential mentor while at Iowa State?
Scott Chumbley, professor of materials science and engineering, led the study abroad trip I went on following my freshman year. Since that summer our group has stayed very close, and he continues to be I can talk to on an academic and personal level.
What would you consider your greatest accomplishments?
Running the Chicago Marathon and qualifying for the Boston Marathon. Additionally, obtaining experience within ISU and outside of ISU to set myself up for immediate success after graduation.
What’s your favorite memory of your time at Iowa State?
Studying abroad in London, England, storming the field after beating TCU (2017) and West Virginia (2018), camping out for the Kansas basketball game (2016), and many other moments in Hilton.
What’s your favorite place on campus?
Sukup/Elings Hall. I spent way too much time in there for it not to be my favorite place. Plus, nothing beats central campus.
What’s your advice for first-year Iowa State engineering students?
Work hard and stay focused, especially early on, whether it’s within each semester course or during your freshman and sophomore years. The hard work upfront makes the rest easier, less stressful, and overall, more rewarding.
What do you like to do in your free time?
I enjoy staying active, relaxing and helping my dad on the farm.
What are your plans for after graduation?
I am excited to join the Systems Integration team as a mechanical design engineer at Raven Industries, Applied Technologies Division in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
