Todd VerHeecke likes to learn about agriculture, so much so that last summer he went to Germany.
Mr. VerHeecke farms about 150 acres near the farm of his father, Rich VerHeecke, about five miles west of Geneseo. He also is a member of the Henry County Farm Bureau.
“My interest in agriculture started in high school through FFA, along with being a more integral part of the farm,” Mr. VerHeecke said. “I knew I wanted to come back home to the farm, but thought it would be in my best interest to go to college and gain experience working other places before returning home.”
The 2000 Geneseo High School graduate earned a degree in agriculture systems technology and agronomy from Iowa State University in Ames. Then, about five years ago, he decided he wanted to learn more and began an online master’s degree program in agronomy program through Iowa State.
“My goal with this degree was to bring my knowledge back to the farm for our operations and also help advance my career at whatever job I chose,” he said.
