AMES, Iowa – This spring, Iowa State University’s Kiewit Scholars Program selected 18 students for the inaugural cohort for the Kiewit Scholars Program at Iowa State. This first group of scholars includes nine incoming freshmen and nine currently enrolled Iowa State students.

“This year we welcome our inaugural cohort of Kiewit Scholars at Iowa State,” said W. Samuel Easterling, the James L. and Katherine S. Melsa Dean of Engineering. “These students will not only be provided a generous scholarship, but they will also build connections and strengthen their leadership, team building and professionalism skills, bringing a unique and talented perspective to their future careers. We are thrilled to welcome these students to the Kiewit Scholars Program, and grateful to the Kiewit Corporation for providing our students this amazing opportunity.”

The program focuses on developing students interested in pursuing a career in the design and construction industry. The students selected for the program represent majors including civil engineering, construction engineering, environmental engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, industrial engineering and engineering undeclared (incoming freshman only). Scholars are renewed on an annual basis.

The scholars program provides funding towards students’ cost of attendance at Iowa State and continuous opportunities to become world-class engineers and industry leaders. Focusing on the three developmental program pillars of leadership, team building and professionalism, the program ensures that Kiewit Scholars acquire the competencies to grow as engineers and solve global problems today and in the future. On top of the academic support and professional development opportunities within this program, scholars are also given the chance to connect with Kiewit professionals to gain industry insight.

“We recognize and appreciate the significant positive impact that Iowa State graduates have had at Kiewit over the years,” Chris Krumwiede, senior vice president of Kiewit Infrastructure Co. (ISU class of 1998, BS Construction Engineering) said, “Through the Kiewit Scholars program, we expect to see that impact continue. We are proud to partner with ISU and demonstrate our commitment to building the next generation of Kiewit leaders.”
