Professor Namrata Vaswani from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECpE) at Iowa State University was recently named a recipient of the ISU Award for Mid-Career Achievement in Research. Vaswani has also recently received the ECE Distinguished Alumni Award from her alma mater University of Maryland, College Park.
With 14 years in ECpE at Iowa State, Vaswani has made many exemplary contributions to the department’s research field. In November 2018, Vaswani was elected as a Fellow of IEEE for contributions to high-dimensional structured data recovery. The IEEE Grade of Fellow is conferred upon a person with an extraordinary record of accomplishments in any of the IEEE fields of interest. The total number selected in any one year does not exceed one-tenth of one percent of the total voting Institute membership. Vaswani is internationally recognized for her long body of work on two interrelated dynamic big data recovery problems – dynamic Compressive Sensing (CS) and dynamic Robust Principal Component Analysis (PCA). She also received the 2014 IEEE Signal Processing Society Best Paper Award for her 2010 IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing paper co-authored with her former student Lu on “Modified-CS: Modifying compressive sensing for problems with partially known support.”
An official ceremony will be held in the South Ballroom of the ISU Memorial Union to honor Vaswani’s Mid-Career Achievement in Research on Monday, Sept. 23, 2019.
