Davide Bigoni of the University of Trento, Italy will be a special guest of the Department of Aerospace Engineering. He will present “Folding of Elastic Solids and Eshelby Forces in Elastic Rods.” The presentation is part of the Midwest Mechanics Seminar Series.
It examines a process rarely encountered in nature but is common in mechanics and how the Eshelby force plays a role.
Bigoni is a faculty member in the Department of Civil, Environmental and Mechanical Engineering at the University of Trento. He is a mechanician working in solid and structural mechanics and material modeling, wave propagation and fracture mechanics. His approach to research is the employment of a broad vision of mechanics, with a combination of mathematical modelling, numerical simulation, and experimental validation. Since 2001 he has held his professor position and is leading a group of researchers in the field of solid and structural mechanics.
