Goce Trajcevski, associate professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECpE) at Iowa State University, is a program committee co-chair of the 25th Association for Computer Machinery SIGSPATIAL International Conference on Advances in Geographic Information Systems (ACM SIGSPATIAL 2017) held in Redondo Beach, California, Nov. 7-10. The conference brings together researchers, developers, users and practitioners related to various aspects of novel systems based on geo-spatial data and knowledge, and it fosters interdisciplinary discussions in all aspects of geographic information systems. There was a forum for original research contributions covering all conceptual, design and implementation aspects of geospatial data.
Trajcevski gave an invited talk entitled “Compression of Spatial Data (and the Challenges of the ‘Big’ Aspect)” at the Sixth International Workshop on Analytics for Big Geospatial Data (BigSpatial), and he served as a panelist at the 10th International Workshop on Computational Transportation Science (IWCTS) on the theme of Trajectory Computing.
Trajcevski said the conference was successful and he enjoyed his time meeting with fellow attendees in California.
“A variety of fields were represented at the conference,” Trajcevski said. “There continues to be an increase of major companies involved, as well as student participation, which shows great growth in this field.”
