Celebrating ASABE’s Best of the Profession: Steve Mickelson

Photograph of Steve MickelsonCharles R. & Jane F. Olsen Professor of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering Steve Mickelson has been given the James R. And Karen A. Gilley Academic Leadership Award. This award honors and recognizes annually an ASABE member who is currently providing outstanding academic leadership while serving as the department head/chair of a Biological and/or Agricultural Engineering Department (or similarly named department) in the United States that presently has an ABET accredited Agricultural/Biological Engineering program.

The award is sponsored by James R. and Karen A. Gilley.

The award is a stately eagle perched on an engraved optic crystal ball to be presented to an individual during the awards recognition program at the Annual International Meeting of the Society.

    Congratulations on receiving the Gilley Academic Leadership award. I have some good and some bad news for you regarding this award. You have probably already been contacted to set on the selection committee for the coming three years. The good news is that I will be exiting the committee membership next year after sitting on this committee since Jim created the award. I think you will be a great addition to the committee and will do a great job in selecting future award winners. I appreciate the great job that you do to lead the ABE department on to bigger and better things. Keep up the good work.
