From the gridiron to the galaxy

Mitchell Harger graduated with a degree in Aerospace Engineering in the Spring of 2016. However, before he left Ames, he still had one more thing to do. As a member of the Iowa State football team, Harger wanted to finish his final year of eligibility with the team before pursuing a career in aerospace engineering.

After capping off a successful career in Division I football which included two Academic All-Big 12 First Team selections, the Ennis Haywood Consideration Award, the Outstanding Walk-On Player Award, and a rushing touchdown against Kansas, Harger is embarking on another long-time dream of his, working at NASA. Harger began his career at NASA in January as an Extravehicular Activity Flight Controller where he will train astronauts and ensure the safety of an astronaut’s spacesuit.
