Deniz Uner, a 1994 PhD alumna, collaborated with the late Anson Marston Distinguished Professor Emeritus L. K. Doraiswamy on an advanced chemical reaction engineering textbook titled “Chemical Reaction Engineering: Beyond the Fundamentals.” The book will officially be published July 30, 2013, by CRC Press. Catch a sneak peek and order your copy now at www.crcpress.com/product/isbn/9781439831229. Below are topics discussed in the book.
- Review of major concepts in chemical reaction engineering
- Residence time distribution analysis, mixing and reactor stability, and nonlinear dynamics
- Multiphase systems and experimental methods for kinetic studies
- Kinetic modeling using molecular simulation methods
- Unique classification scheme for reactors, demonstrating how to apply engineering analysis to a representative spectrum of industrially important reaction engineering problems
Dr. Deniz Uner is professor and chair of the Chemical Engineering department at Middle East Technical University in Ankara, Turkey. Her research involves catalysis, chemical reaction engineering, and thermodynamics. Uner currently uses these topics to conduct research in energy efficient chemical conversions and in storage of solar and thermal energy in chemical bonds. She also is the founding president of the Catalysis Society of Turkey. Uner represents Turkey on the European Federation of Catalysis Societies Council and the International Association of Catalysis Societies Council. In 2012 she earned Iowa State University College of Engineering’s Professional Achievement Citation in Engineering (PACE) Award. Former Iowa State chemical engineering Professor and Chair Terry King was her major professor.
The late Anson Marston Distinguished Professor Emeritus L. K. Doraiswamy advised Uner while she earned her doctoral degree at Iowa State. Doraiswamy was an international leader in the chemical reaction engineering community. He wrote several highly acclaimed books on the subject, including this collaboration with Uner before he died in June 2012. Before joining Iowa State chemical engineering faculty in 1989, Doraiswamy led the National Chemical Laboratory in India. From 1989 through 2012, Doraiswamy held three titles at Iowa State: Glenn Murphy Visiting Professor of Engineering (1989-1992), Herbert L. Stiles Professor (1992-2001) and the College of Engineering’s highest faculty honor, Anson Marston Distinguished Professor (1996-2012). He gained emeritus status after retiring in 2001. In 2010 he garnered the highest American honor for an engineer – election to the National Academy of Engineering. He contributed much to the chemical engineering community: six books, 170 articles in journals around the world, and countless lectures at universities throughout the world.
