On April 18, 2011, construction engineering alumnus Claire Bassett received an Outstanding College Volunteer award during the Story County Youth Volunteer Awards. One of her volunteer activities included being a coach for the Flying Monkeys, a local FIRST LEGO team who won the inaugural Global Innovation Award. The Volunteer Center of Story County and Iowa State University Student Activities Center host the event to recognize those who have contributed in important ways to the community. Individuals in Story County under the age of 25 are eligible for the awards.
