College co-sponsors upcoming SES Technical Meeting

Iowa State University will host the 47th Annual Society of Engineering Science (SES) Technical Meeting on October 3-6 at the Gateway Hotel and Conference Center in Ames. The meeting is co-sponsored by the College of Engineering and three of its academic departments: aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, and materials science and engineering

The meeting’s goals—expanding cooperation, understanding and the promotion of efforts in engineering science, and enhancing discussion among diverse groups of researchers in order to determine solutions to critical modern problems—mesh well with Iowa State’s long tradition of interdisciplinary programs.

This year’s meeting will focus on multi-scale multi-physics phenomena. The conference includes topic tracks on biomechanics, computational methods, dynamics, fluid mechanics, mechanics of materials and structures, and multi-physics phenomena. Of particular interest to SES, the College of Engineering’s ongoing research encompasses micro- and nano-mechanics, nondestructive evaluation, bioengineering, and advanced materials synthesis and characterization.

More than 300 attendees are anticipated, including more than 120 graduate students. This year’s meeting features 27 symposia with more than 350 papers. Those interested in participating can visit the meeting’s main web page for more information.
