Apply now for CBE’s 2020 BioMaP undergrad research program

The application period for the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering (CBE) 2020 BioMaP REU program is now open. To apply, click here.

Undergraduate hands-on research is the cornerstone of the popular BioMaP REU program.
Students in the program cap their summer experience by displaying a research poster reflecting their work.

The department is set to share its expertise with undergraduate researchers from around the U.S. once again in the summer of 2020. The program (Biological Materials and Processes Research Experience for Undergraduates) will be held May 26-July 31 and provides a valuable opportunity for chemical engineering students to practice hands-on research in a selected area. They will also benefit from guidance and interaction from department faculty, graduate students, scientists and industry representatives.

Fourteen research projects are available. They include work with nanovaccines against infectious diseases, controlling cancer cell behavior through gene delivery and tumor microenvironment engineering, engineering immune responses and designing resonant sensors for enhanced wound healing, biomass conversion to fuels, chemicals and thermoplastics, and much more.

Students selected for the program receive a weekly stipend, a food and housing allowance and travel expense assistance. Detailed information and the online application form can be found on the CBE web site. Applications will be accepted through February 15, 2020. In addition to baccalaureate-track students, community college students from any state are welcome to apply.

There’s always time for department-organized social activities with the BioMaP program as well.

This will be the 12th BioMaP REU program with Iowa State CBE. It is supported by the National Science Foundation.
