BARABOO, WI: As a future agricultural engineer, Spencer Pech wants to help create a more sustainable form of agriculture that can help feed the world in the future. MSA Professional Services (MSA), Baraboo, WI, recently awarded Pech a $1,000 scholarship for the fall 2016 semester to help him achieve that goal.
Pech, a Winthrop resident, is pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Engineering with an emphasis in Land and Water Resources from Iowa State University. He expects to graduate in 2019.
Pech now works as a student operator at the City of Ames water treatment plant on weekends. “Part of my interview process was a plant tour where I quickly realized the amount of work that goes into bringing water to my bathroom sink,” he said.
The scholarship, one of seven given to students in the Upper Midwest, was awarded based on several factors including past academic performance, application essay, leadership experience and volunteer experience. MSA has four offices in Iowa: Cedar Rapids, Des Moines, Dubuque and the Quad Cities.
MSA President/CEO Gilbert Hantzsch said, “MSA is pleased to offer scholarships to these exceptional engineering students. Our firm supports STEM education from elementary school through higher education. We recognize that the demand for STEM workers will continue to increase and we want to do our part to support engineering students.”
MSA is a full service consulting firm with more than 300 professionals and support personnel, including engineers, architects, planners, funding experts, surveyors, GIS experts and environmental scientists.
