Mechanical engineering senior Spencer Thornton geared up for final Iowa State home game on Nov. 29.
The Iowa State long snapper has flown under the radar and is rarely talked about. Last Saturday, Thornton finally got his due.
Thornton, perhaps the most under-appreciated and consistent player for Iowa State the last three seasons, was honored during Senior Day festivities. The Cyclones’ final home game of the season was an 11 a.m. Big 12 contest against West Virginia at Jack Trice Stadium.
Thornton still has one more game left in college, against TCU on Dec. 6. He plans to finish his degree in mechanical engineering, but he isn’t ready to give up long snapping yet. Thornton is hoping to get a job in the NFL.
“I don’t want to look 20 years past and say, ‘Oh well, I wish I would have tried,’ ” Thornton said. “So we’ll give that a shot.”
