The Department of Construction, Civil and Environmental Engineering (CCEE) is excited to welcome Tricia Snyder to the department as a new advisor. With a background in the medical field and elementary teaching, Tricia is passionate about guiding students through their time at Iowa State.
What inspired you to become an advisor here in CCEE?
I have always enjoyed helping others in the medical field as well as in elementary teaching. . Advising will be a way for me to continue to support and guide students along their journey. I like the idea of working with students individually and getting the chance to help them navigate their college experience while exploring their interests. In addition, ISU is a special place to me and my family, and I’m excited to be a part of such a great engineering program.
What do you want students to know when they graduate?
Continue to be problem solvers and innovators. Set short-term and long-term goals, but don’t be upset if things don’t work out completely as you planned. Be flexible and maintain relationships with professors, mentors, and your advisor.
How did you get involved in the advising community?
I was grateful for my advisor when I was a student at ISU. She made an impact on my academic and personal development. I hope to do the same in my advising role. I feel my teaching experience, as well as my love for the college experience and atmosphere, led me to this role.
