U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced the renewal of USDA’s Agricultural Air Quality Task Force and the selection of its members for the 2013-2015 term. The task force is composed of representatives from industry, agriculture, academia, government agencies, non-governmental organizations and other agricultural and environmental experts.
One of those representatives is Hongwei Xin, professor of agricultural and biosystems engineering at Iowa State University and the director of the Egg Industry Center located at ISU. Xin’s research and extension programs focus on air quality issues related to animal feeding operations with emphasis on measurement and mitigation of aerial emissions; impacts of environmental and management factors on production performance, behavior, and welfare of livestock and poultry; and livestock and poultry housing and environmental control.
