Four College of Engineering faculty recognized
The Iowa Energy Center recently honored leaders and innovators in the center’s four program areas – bioenergy, renewable energy, energy efficiency, and education and outreach – with the Impact Award. This year was the first year with grants awarded. Five award winners were chosen in these categories, four of them being College of Engineering faculty.
Robert Brown, Anson Marston Distinguished Professor of Engineering and Gary and Donna Hoover Chair in Mechanical Engineering
Brown serves as director of the Bioeconomy Institute and focuses his research on thermochemical processing of biomass and fossil fuels, transforming them into energy, fuels and chemicals.
Mufit Akinc, professor of materials science and engineering
Akinc believes that improving energy efficiency will reduce Iowa’s energy consumption. He is developing new insulation materials that will improve energy efficiency.
Hui Hu, professor of aerospace engineering
Anupam Sharma, assistant professor and Walter W. Wilson faculty fellow of aerospace engineering
Hu and Sharma have partnered to create a dual-rotor wind turbine to improve wind farm performance.
