AMES, Iowa – Officials from Iowa Western Community College and Iowa State University have signed an agreement to provide a seamless pathway for IWCC students to receive an engineering degree from the ISU College of Engineering.

Students who complete recommended courses at IWCC in two semesters and transfer to Iowa State will be on track to obtain a Bachelor of Science degree in eight total semesters.

“This arrangement offers students in western Iowa access to first-year basic program engineering coursework close to home with a clear articulated pathway to a premier engineering program at Iowa State,” said Kim Carter, dean of math, engineering and industrial technologies at IWCC. “In addition, students have a seamless transfer and dual advising from both schools.”

“We are pleased to have solidified this partnership with Iowa Western Community College and look forward to a long and beneficial relationship,” said Sarah Rajala, dean of the ISU College of Engineering. “We are dedicated to educating future engineers who will contribute locally and globally to solving our greatest challenges.”

Iowa Western expects about 30 students to participate in this program each year. Iowa State’s engineering enrollment this academic year is 8,284.
