Thirty-seven members of the Iowa State University student chapter of Associated General Contractors (AGC) are in Johnson City, Tenn., this week to help rebuild homes after the city’s devastating flood in summer 2012. Through Wednesday, Nov. 21, construction engineering students construct joists, flooring, walls, sheathing and roofing for three homes destroyed by the flood.
Bristol, Va., NBC affiliate News WCYB reports on their experience in a Nov. 18 article.
Johnson City, Tenn., CBS affiliate News WJHL also reports on Nov. 19.
This is one of a few national community service projects Iowa State AGC members have participated in within the last year. During Thanksgiving Break 2011 and again during Spring Break 2012 they visited Joplin, Mo., to help rebuild homes after the town was destroyed by an EF5 (highly destructive), multiple-vortex tornado in May 2011.
