The Roy J. Carver Charitable Trust of Muscatine has provided a pair of grants to Iowa State University totaling over $500,000.
Ian Schneider, assistant professor of chemical and biological engineering, was awarded a $308,200 grant from the Carver Trust to research engineering complex environments for probing mechanisms of cell migration.
Schneider is engineering tunable environments to determine how and why cells migrate — including cancer cells in metastasis from one part of the body to another. His research could aid in grading cancers as cell migration represents a direct measure of metastasis.
