Karl Gschneidner, Distinguished Professor in the College of Engineering, spoke before a congressional panel on March 16 about the lack of rare-earth research in the United States today and how an increase in that research could create multiple new industries. A news release from the U.S. Department of Energy’s Ames Laboratory is available here, and The Tribune has a story covering Gschneidner’s appearance. Additionally, Dennis Smith has a blog on Innovate Online regarding this topic and will be posting a story there–stay tuned! The New York Times printed a story on April 12 on this topic, citing Gschneidner’s appearance before the House Science and Technology Subcommittee.
