CCEE Alum Ali Arabzadeh Receives Canadian Technical Asphalt Association Award

One of only three papers accepted with no Canadian authors, Iowa State University Department of Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering’s Ali Arabzadeh received the 2021 Elaine Thompson Editor’s Award for ‘Best Written Presentation’ for the Canadian Technical Asphalt Association.

From International Construction to Aquatic Chemistry: CCEE Welcomes Two New Faculty

As the Department of Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering (CCEE) begins a new semester, two faculty members start a new chapter of their careers here in CCEE at Iowa State University.

Joseph Charbonnet, assistant professor in environmental engineering, and Steven Johnson, professor of practice in construction engineering both began their faculty positions this semester. 

Alumna Lori Ryerkerk of Celanese Corporation enters CBE Hall of Fame

Lori Ryerkerk, an alumna of the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering (CBE), has been inducted into the CBE Hall of Fame. She accepted the honor November 18 as part of the department’s Honors and Awards ceremony that celebrated student scholarships, fellowships and other achievements.

Contributing to civil engineering education one scholarship at a time

Iowa State University alum Richard Gumtau had a more than five-decade career as a highway engineer which took him all over the country and even other parts of the world. Gumtau’s journey is an aspiring one though it almost ended before it even started because of the academic and financial hurdles he faced his freshman year of college. This would eventually inspire him to support students so they would not need to encounter the hardship he endured.

Hagenson professorship ceremony honors CBE’s Eric Cochran

Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering professor Eric Cochran has been officially recognized as Mary Jane Skogen Hagenson & Randy L. Hagenson Professor in a medallion ceremony on the Iowa State University campus.

Two with CCEE ties elected to the National Academy of Construction

Two Cyclone Engineers have been elected to the National Academy of Construction 2021 class. Vilas S Mujumdar, professor of practice in civil, construction and environmental engineering, and alumnus Rao Surampalli (’85 PhD civil engr) are being recognized for their outstanding contributions to the field.

Building for the Future

Thanks to a $42 million gift commitment from C.G. “Turk” and Joyce A. McEwen Therkildsen, the department will have a new facility that will serve as its home and provide technically enhanced research laboratory and learning spaces where industrial engineering students can gain the knowledge to design tomorrow’s innovative, nimble and intelligent processes needed now more than ever across all industrial sectors.
