Undergrads wrap up a summer of opportunities in CBE’s BioMaP REU program

This summer, an expanded BioMaP REU program provided 18 college students from across the nation with the opportunity to work under the mentorship of ISU chemical and biological engineering faculty members and graduate students to gain hands-on research experience in topics that match their educational interests and goals.

Two CBE postdocs receive excellence awards

Postdocs Jungkuk Lee and Susheel Kumar Nethi of the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering (CBE) have been awarded Postdoctoral Scholar Excellence Awards from the Graduate College of Iowa State University.

Chowdhury, Kozminsky, Wang join CBE faculty in fall semester

The Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering welcomes three new faculty members: Ratul Chowdhury, Molly Kozminsky and Jing Wang, who are beginning their appointments in the fall 2022 semester. All will be tenure-track assistant professors.

CBE research group’s article featured on the cover of the Journal of the American Chemical Society

The work being done by the research groups of Chemical and Biological Engineering professors Eric Cochran, Brent Shanks, and Jean-Philippe Tessonnier is making headlines. The article “ Bioenabled Platform to Access Polyamides with Built-In Target Properties,” which is a result of their research, has been featured on the June cover of the Journal of the American Chemical Society (JACS).

Expanded BioMaP undergrad research program underway with 18 students

Students from Iowa State University and around the nation are settling in for a summer of hands-on research work with ISU’s Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering (CBE) with the BioMaP Summer Research Experience for Undergraduates.

Oviedo, Spain summer lab in full swing with support from Whitney scholarships

A cohort of 11 chemical engineering students have embarked on the study abroad summer lab program that many point to as the highlight of their undergraduate experience in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering (CBE) at Iowa State University. Accompanied by CBE faculty member, teaching professor Stephanie Loveland, the group is now in Oviedo, Spain participating in the chemical engineering summer lab experience, which is conducted in collaboration with faculty and facilities at the University of Oviedo.

Anson Marston Distinguished Professor in Engineering and Hershel B. Whitney Professor, Global Initiatives Rodney Fox has been selected for the 2022-23 Fulbright-Tocqueville Distinguished Chair Award.

Chemical engineering grad student, Abigail Koep, awarded Graduate Research Fellowship from prestigious NSF program

Abigail Koep, entered the chemical and biological engineering Ph.D. program in 2022 and is one of only three ISU students to receive the illustrious Graduate Research Fellowship this year.

Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering alumnus and major department supporter Harold Wiggers passed away March 26 at the age of 93. His wife, Doreen Badger, 88, passed away March 31.
