Two CBE postdocs receive excellence awards

Postdocs Jungkuk Lee and Susheel Kumar Nethi of the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering (CBE) have been awarded Postdoctoral Scholar Excellence Awards from the Graduate College of Iowa State University.

Cyclone Rocketry overcomes difficulties, nets best-ever showing in Spaceport America competition

After a variety of challenges and delays at the Spaceport America Cup (SAC) intercollegiate rocket competition, it all came right for Cyclone Rocketry. The team of Iowa State University students was rewarded with a second-place overall finish in its division, and 14th place overall in the event, the best-ever showing for the ISU effort.

Iowa State researchers receive FAA awards

Philippe Meister, a recent Ph.D. graduate in human-computer interaction (HCI), and Michael Dorneich, professor in industrial and manufacturing systems engineering (IMSE), were both recognized during the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) annual meeting for its Partnership to Enhance General Aviation Safety, Accessibility and Sustainability (PEGASAS) program held this summer in Chicago. Meister is the recipient of the 2021 Outstanding Student Researcher Award while Dorneich won the 2021 Jimenez Faculty / Researcher Award.

Faculty Professional Development Assignment leads to patent for IMSE prof

The Faculty Professional Development Assignment (FPDA) taken by one industrial engineering professor has paid off in the form of a patent. Matt Frank, the John B. Slater Professor of Sustainable Design & Manufacturing, and a team of engineers from Deere and Company were recently issued U.S. Patent 11,364,536 B1 for the “layered slab manufacturing system and method”

Teaching/research awards honor four AerE grad students

Four graduate students in the Department of Aerospace Engineering have been honored for their work with Teaching Excellence and Research Excellence Awards from Iowa State University’s Graduate College. The awards are presented each fall and spring semester to graduate students who demonstrate excellence in their scientific research or their performance in teaching.
