Olivia Tyrrell (mech engr ‘21) recently landed research on the moon in an area she has worked on since she was an undergrad researcher in the Center for Multiphase Flow Research and Education.   As a junior, she joined the Multiphase Reacting Flow Lab, working under the mentorship of James Michael, associate professor of mechanical engineering and CoMFRE faculty research.   “Dr. Michael introduced …Continue reading “Thanks to CoMFRE undergrad research experience, Olivia Tyrrell shot for the moon… and made it”

Aaron Schoon: Outstanding senior in mechanical engineering

“Engineering like a Cyclone Engineer means effectively using the skills and knowledge you have gained as an engineer while also realizing the importance of collaborating with others towards achieving success. At Iowa State, opportunities to work within teams for classes, research, and clubs better prepare us to make a mark on history.”

Vaidehee Bahirat: Outstanding senior in industrial engineering

“My Cyclone Engineering education has prepared me to be an engineer in any part of the world. We get to learn a wide variety of concepts not just through the academic curriculum but also through opportunities like research assistant, senior design, and group projects. The network and quality of education are unique at Iowa State.”

Hannah Nelson: Outstanding senior in electrical engineering

“I am excited to be a part of the energy transition to renewable resources because electricity is essential to society, and it relates to many other global issues. We have this gift of plentiful resources such as wind and sunlight, and it’s inspiring to think about how that will change the future of energy. Also, as a woman in engineering, I look forward to encouraging and mentoring other women looking to become electrical engineers.”

Grace Bjustrom: Outstanding senior in agricultural engineering

“Before coming to college, I aspired to become an engineer who could help put more food on the table with less land due to our growing world population. This aspiration remains true to this day. I now feel I have the knowledge and network to move towards that goal. Whether my name is known by the world or not, I know that I want to make a difference in my community and workplace. Small things can make a huge difference.”
