When Patrick Demers, software engineering major at Iowa State University, realized how important CyRide was to getting around Ames, he took it upon himself to engineer a simple and efficient means of navigating bus transportation – the Ames Ride app.
Iowa State University’s College of Engineering is introducing a bachelor of science degree program in biomedical engineering.
The biomedical engineering program will be a hands-on educational experience in understanding, designing and manufacturing innovations to improve health. Majoring in biomedical engineering can also prepare students for medical school or other advanced studies.
There will be a panel discussion on Atanasoff. Panel presenters include Dr. Ashfaq Khokar, chair of electrical and computer engineering at Iowa State University; Mark Ridolfi, managing editor of the North Scott Press, who interviewed Atanasoff; and Shawn Beattie, manager of educational technology at the college.
Jacob Knuerr is building his one-of-a-kind multiphase flow research skills and connecting with multiphase scholars from across the world as an undergraduate research assistant working with faculty mentor Ted Heindel, CoMFRE director, University Professor, and the Bergles Professor of Thermal Science in the Department of Mechanical Engineering.
CoMFRE held a student poster competition at 2022 Symposium and Member Meeting in October, and four graduate and undergraduate students won top poster honors.
A paper published by CoMFRE affiliate Hui Hu, Martin C. Jischke Professor in Aerospace Engineering, and three of his former Ph.D. students has been selected for the 2022 AIAA Gas Turbine Engine Best Paper Award by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics’ (AIAA) Gas Turbine Engines Technical Committee.
For the past four years, Kumar Saurabh, a grad student in mechanical engineering, has focused on developing new jet atomization algorithms to accurately capture the formation of droplets and necessary physics.
Pelin Guven Geredeli, an assistant professor in the Department of Mathematics and CoMFRE affiliate, is conducting two projects that hope to advance multiphase-flow discoveries.
For seven College of Engineering staff members, their involvement with Iowa State goes beyond their regular job duties. All are currently serving their fellow employees on the university’s Professional and Scientific Council.
A group of Iowa State researchers, led by Rodney Fox, CoMFRE executive director, is collaborating with Cargill and Genomatica to scale-up of fermentation processes. The award was announced this week at the White House Summit on the National Biotechnology and Biomanufacturing Initiative.
