Clubs and activities

I joined the boxing club during my time at Iowa State.

Valuable hands-on learning in class

Course projects were the most valuable because I could apply everything I learned in class to practical problems. These projects allowed me to see the real-world applications of theoretical knowledge, which enhanced my understanding and skills.

Valuable out-of-the-classroom experience

Research has been the most valuable experience. I am currently involved in a project to create an automated inspection system. This opportunity has allowed me to develop technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and an appreciation for innovation in engineering.

Most influential mentor

Paul Kremer, my research manager, has been my most influential mentor. Through my research under his guidance, I was able to explore new concepts, deepen my knowledge, and gain insights that extended beyond the classroom.

Best memory/greatest accomplishment

My greatest accomplishment is developing an automated inspection system as part of my research project. It combined theoretical knowledge with practical implementation, showcasing my ability to solve real-world problems. My best memory is working with my senior design team to create a high-speed eye-tracking system. Collaborating with peers and seeing our project come to life was incredibly fulfilling.

Plans after graduation

I plan to pursue a career in machine learning operations or computer vision engineering, leveraging my skills in research and development to contribute to innovative projects.

Support from Engineering Career Services

Engineering Career Services provided resources such as resume reviews, mock interviews, and job fairs, which were instrumental in preparing me for internships and full-time opportunities. They also helped me identify roles that matched my skills and career goals.

Making my mark on the world

I want to contribute to innovations that make technology more accessible and efficient, particularly in areas like automation and machine learning, to solve real-world challenges and improve quality of life.

Engineering like a Cyclone Engineer

To engineer “like a Cyclone Engineer” means to embrace challenges with resilience and creativity, use knowledge to make a positive impact, and always strive for excellence in both technical and ethical dimensions of engineering. The strong emphasis on hands-on learning and collaboration stands out. Iowa State’s environment fosters creativity and problem-solving, equipping students with both technical expertise and the ability to work effectively in teams.

What I’d tell my younger self about Iowa State

Choosing Iowa State will open up opportunities for growth and discovery. You’ll gain practical experience, make meaningful connections, and build a strong foundation for a successful career in engineering.

Most inspiring location on campus

The labs in Coover Hall inspire me the most. It’s where theory meets practice, and I’ve had some of my most rewarding learning experiences there, working on projects and research that pushed my skills to the next level.
