Award Category: Recognition Award
Award Description: Tutors in Iowa State’s CyMath program have had one or more papers in the last two years at each of the two top machine learning conferences (the Conference on Neural Information Processing Systems and the International Conference on Machine Learning).
Jiabin Lin, Ruoyu Meng, Vrinda Girimaji, Dr. Aditya Ramamoorthy, Dr. Shana Moothedath, and Dr. Namrata Vaswani are publishing exciting new machine learning algorithms work in the best conferences while also helping K-12 youth make large gains in their math skills! Papers were written on novel algorithms and theoretical analyses for meta learning or learning to learn, contextual bandits, cyber-attack resilience for distributed low rank matrix learning and few shot learning, and on fast algorithms for gradient-coding based straggler resilience in distributed computing (critical for making distributed computing reliably fast).
