Department of Aerospace Engineering graduate student Alex Perruci has been awarded a three-year SMART scholarship from the Department of Defense (DoD).
The prestigious SMART (Science, Mathematics, and Research for Transformation) scholarships are awarded to undergraduate, masters, and doctoral students pursuing a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) degree. Recipients receive benefits that include full tuition, annual stipends, summer research internships, and guaranteed employment with the Department of Defense after graduation.
Perruci is conducting his graduate research as part of his doctoral degree program under AerE assistant professor Dae-Young Lee. He and Lee applied for the scholarship to assist in Perruci’s study of extended target tracking and its applications to space craft navigation and space debris detecting. His expected graduation is spring 2026.
