“What’s unique about being a Cyclone Engineer is the collaboration you have among the multiple engineering disciplines, which is invaluable to understanding the different systems even within your own major.”
Valuable hands-on learning experience: My three summer internships were extremely valuable. I worked as a construction engineer intern with Baxter Woodman and as a project manager intern with The Opis Group. I also got great experience working in the lab with Roy Sturgill, assistant professor of civil, construction and environmental engineering.
Influential mentor: In two and a half years as a TA in his classes, Matt Rouse, teaching professor of civil, construction and environmental engineering. I learned so much from him about teaching others, and his experience and connections have helped me out through numerous classes.
Biggest accomplishment: Completing my capstone design notebook was a cumulation of all of my time here at Iowa State put into one comprehensive project.
Plans after graduation: I will be moving to Lansing, Michigan, and have accepted a job with Spicer Group in the Construction Engineering Division.
Making my mark on the world: I want to ensure that civil infrastructure projects are built correctly and will last their full life.
Engineering like a Cyclone Engineer: What’s unique about being a Cyclone Engineer is the collaboration you have among the multiple engineering disciplines, which is invaluable to understanding the different systems even within your own major.
