Iowa State’s undergrad IE program ranked 20th

Iowa State University’s undergraduate program in industrial engineering is ranked 20th in the nation, according to the “Best Colleges 2022” rankings released by U.S. News and World Report. Iowa State’s IE program, which was first established at Iowa State in 1919, is one of just three programs within the College of Engineering to crack the top 25.

“We are very pleased to receive this national recognition,” said Sarah Ryan, interim department chair and Joseph Walkup Professor in industrial and manufacturing systems engineering (IMSE). “In IMSE we work hard to develop professionals who can improve processes to help people in a wide range of industries and careers.”

Methodology for the national rankings is based on student outcomes (graduation, retention rates), faculty resources (faculty salary, class size), academic reputation (judged by academics at peer institutions), financial resources (average spending per student), student excellence (SAT, ACT scores) and alumni giving. The U.S. News & World Report “Best Colleges 2022” rankings can be found on the magazine’s website.
