CIRAS to partner with Alliant Energy, open new digital manufacturing lab

Iowa State University’s Center for Industrial Research and Service (CIRAS) is pleased to announce a new partnership with Alliant Energy that will make it easier for Iowa manufacturers to implement new digital technologies and become more productive. With Alliant Energy’s support, CIRAS this summer will open a new laboratory in the ISU Research Park to help Iowa companies experiment with new manufacturing technologies. The new ISU Digital Manufacturing Lab Powered by Alliant Energy will educate Iowa businesses about technologies such as collaborative robots and advanced vision systems and help them explore ways that automation might improve their companies.

When Patrick Weiler graduated from Iowa State in 1980 with a degree in agricultural engineering, he began a tradition of support for his alma matter. The legacy now spans two generations of the Weiler family, including Megan (Weiler) Green (’06 finance), Joel Weiler (’10 nutr sci) and Katelyn (Weiler) Freeseman (’12 civil engr). As Iowa State alums, the Weilers said they are proud to help support future generations of Cyclones engineers.

When he began his adventure at Iowa State University, Joe Vanstrom was a student looking for a way to get more hands-on in the engineering field. He found his calling in the industrial technology program and received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in the discipline.
