Patience has paid off for one mechanical engineering student, as he recently published a research paper nearly a year after completing a research internship at a national lab. Xian Yeow Lee, a doctoral student in mechanical engineering (ME), spent three months during the summer of 2019 as a research intern at the Lawrence Livermore National …Continue reading “Summer research internship leads to journal paper for ME student”
Cyclone Engineers are working with collaborators to develop machine learning theories and software tools that can quickly and cheaply design better solar cells. Those theories and tools could also be applied to the rapid design of all kinds of new technologies.
Cyclone Engineers are staying at the forefront of emerging, cross-disciplinary areas of research with the help of a new faculty-led lecture series. Launched last fall, Iowa State engineering faculty, post docs and grad students are coming together to exchange expertise focused on fast-moving areas of engineering.
Funding from Iowa State’s Plant Science Institute will allow a mechanical engineering researcher to study ways to assist farmers in Iowa and across the globe in growing food. Soumik Sarkar, an assistant professor in mechanical engineering, will receive $75,000 in funding per year over the next three years for his research project. This project combines …Continue reading “ME researcher named Plant Science Institute Faculty Scholar”
