Partha Sarkar named recipient of Jack E. Cermak Medal

The Jack E. Cermak Medal, one of the most prestigious honors in the field of wind engineering, has been awarded to Department of Aerospace Engineering Professor Partha P. Sarkar.

Through the blown glass: Iris Top combines engineering and art

Iris Top is a graduate student at Iowa State University studying computer engineering, with a degree focus in secure and reliable computing.

The summer of 2022 marked the end of Top’s term as president of the Gaffer’s Guild, a student organization dedicated to the education and training in the art and science of glassblowing. Four Aerospace Engineering graduate students receive award for teaching, research

For the Fall 2022 semester, four graduate students in the Department of Aerospace Engineering have been honored with Teaching Excellence (TEX) and Research Excellence (REX) Awards from Iowa State University’s graduate college. The awards are presented to graduate students who demonstrate excellence in their scientific research or their teaching performance.

Aerospace Engineering chair Alric Rothmayer announces retirement; Sarkar to be interim chair

Department of Aerospace Engineering Vance and Arlene Coffman Endowed Department Chair Alric Rothmayer has announced his retirement from Iowa State University effective the end of the spring 2023 semester. A search for a replacement will begin in the near future. Professor Partha Sarkar will serve as interim chair.

Aerospace Engineering’s Ping He receives Mack 2050 Challenge honor

Department of Aerospace Engineering assistant professor Ping He has been named a Michael and Denise Mack 2050 Challenge Scholar. The program was established to support the Iowa State University College of Engineering’s 2050 vision. It supports one junior faculty member with fellowship funding.

Sara Nelson named Iowa Space Grant Consortium director

The Iowa Space Grant Consortium (ISGC) has announced Dr. Sara D. Nelson as its new director. The NASA-supported agency is part of Iowa State’s Department of Aerospace Engineering and works to improve and inspire Iowa’s involvement in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) education.
