ABE Alum Spotlight: Emily DeJesu – conserving water, starting at ISU

Emily DeJesu graduated from Iowa State University in 2021 with a bachelor’s degree in Biological Systems Engineering (BSE). DeJesu grew up in the suburbs of Chicago and had a connection to Iowa State through her dad, with Iowa State being her dad’s alma mater. She always had a passion for the environment, math, and science which made BSE at ISU an easy educational choice.

ABE Alum Spotlight: Brady Nahkala – building a career preserving our water resources, starting at ISU

Brady Nahkala is a two-time alum of Iowa State University and a Water Resources Project Engineer at Bolton & Menk, Inc. Growing up in Minnesota, Nahkala had a love for lakes, rivers, and spending time in nature. Combining his love for the outdoors and affinity for math, he attended Iowa State to study Biological Systems Engineering.

French exchange students study ancient grains during summer research program

If what is old is new again, is there a way to make ancient grains new to 21st-century taste buds?
Kurt Rosentrater, executive director of the Distillers Grains Technology Council and associate professor at Iowa State University’s Department of Agricultural and Biological Systems Engineering (ISU ABE) is exploring this question with help from a group of six students from southern France.

ISU ABE alum Rachael Barnes earns Wallace E. Barron All-University Senior Award

Leadership has been Rachel Barnes’ specialty at Iowa State. Through ISU’s Program for Women in Science and Engineering (WiSE), she has served as a student role model, student role model coordinator – a position that reaches more than 7,000 K-12 students every year, leadership studies peer mentor, and residential peer mentor.
