Apply now for Spaceflight Operations Workshop™! Do you have what it takes?

If “What I Did This Summer” essays were still a thing in school, the Department of Aerospace Engineering Spaceflight Operations Workshop would offer some great inspiration.

And while those selected for this year’s edition may or may not be writing essays about it later, it will give them something even more valuable: a new way of looking at the world and handling challenges – from an “operational” standpoint.

The application period for the two-week experience, set for August 2-14, 2022, is now open. As always, it will depart from the typical college classroom experience, to engage students in hands-on activities to learn planning, execution, and teamwork while transforming their thought processes to be more operationally centered.

Cyclone engineers take to the sky for advanced manufacturing research

A team of Iowa State University College of Engineering researchers recently experienced something that few ever will: a zero-gravity environment.

Iowa Lakes teams up with Iowa State to test batteries

Iowa Lakes Community College collaborates with Iowa State University to provide hands-on learning experiences to engineering students. The experimental collaboration utilizes a battery testing machine purchased with a grant obtained by both colleges. The device will allow engineering students to collect data on the optimal charging cycles of battery cells.

IE’s Tokadlı named Fall 2021 Graduate College student marshal

For the second semester in a row, a College of Engineering student has been selected as the Graduate College’s student marshal and this semester that honor goes to Güliz Tokadlı, a Ph.D. candidate in industrial engineering and human-computer interaction. Tokadlı’s graduate school experience differs from most doctoral students in that she is working full-time while pursuing her Ph.D. In September, she starting working as the human factors lead at Locomotion, a company working on autonomous trucking technology.

Iowa State’s undergrad IE program ranked 20th

Building for the Future

Thanks to a $42 million gift commitment from C.G. “Turk” and Joyce A. McEwen Therkildsen, the department will have a new facility that will serve as its home and provide technically enhanced research laboratory and learning spaces where industrial engineering students can gain the knowledge to design tomorrow’s innovative, nimble and intelligent processes needed now more than ever across all industrial sectors.
