Celebrating Women in CCEE: Sadie Brockett

Celebrating Women’s History Month this March, Iowa State University Department of Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering is highlighting past, present and future women in engineering. Sadie Brockett is a senior in Construction Engineering and the President of the Associated General Contractors of America, Iowa State Chapter. Growing up around construction engineering influenced her initial interest, but her passion and skills have allowed her to flourish in the field and her education.

Celebrating Women in CCEE: Lauren Bockholt

Celebrating Women’s History Month this March, Iowa State University Department of Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering is highlighting past, present and future women in engineering. Lauren Bockholt, a Senior Project Engineer at Ryan Companies, is an Iowa State Alumni graduating with her bachelor’s in construction engineering (ConE) in 2017 and her master’s in structural engineering in 2018. She has always been structurally minded and has been making architects’ visions a reality in the field in her career.

Beena Ajmera is an assistant professor in CCEE, and has made many monumental contributions to the civil engineering field.

CoMFRE graduate student earns prestigious DoD SMART Scholarship

Justin Lajoie, a mechanical engineering graduate student working with Travis Sipple in multiphase flows, has received the Department of Defense, Science, Mathematics, and Research for Transformation (SMART) scholarship. The scholarship fully funds his education and allows him to focus on his research.

CCEE’s Alipour and Shafei receive Bridging the Divide grant to address disaster response

Alice Alipour and Behrouz Shafei, both Cerwick Faculty Fellows and associate professors of civil, construction and environmental engineering, are on an interdisciplinary team of Iowa State University researchers selected to receive the 2021 Bridging the Divide seed grant. The $25,000 award will be used to investigate methods of expediting post-disaster safety assessments of structures.

Emily Johnson: From Cyclone Engineering Ph.D. to Notre Dame faculty

Emily Johnson completed her Ph.D. in mechanical engineering and wind energy science, engineering, and policy this summer. New light-controlled nanoprinting for new meta-surfaces

Jaeyoun Kim, professor of electrical and computer engineering, and In-Ho Cho, associate professor of civil, construction and environmental engineering, have received a new $525,000 award from the National Science Foundation to develop single-step, rapidly reconfigurable grayscale nanoprinting by light-controlled nanocapillary effect.
