Celebrating Women’s History Month this March, Iowa State University Department of Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering is highlighting past, present and future women in engineering. Sadie Brockett is a senior in Construction Engineering and the President of the Associated General Contractors of America, Iowa State Chapter. Growing up around construction engineering influenced her initial interest, but her passion and skills have allowed her to flourish in the field and her education.

Justin Lajoie, a mechanical engineering graduate student working with Travis Sipple in multiphase flows, has received the Department of Defense, Science, Mathematics, and Research for Transformation (SMART) scholarship. The scholarship fully funds his education and allows him to focus on his research.
Alice Alipour and Behrouz Shafei, both Cerwick Faculty Fellows and associate professors of civil, construction and environmental engineering, are on an interdisciplinary team of Iowa State University researchers selected to receive the 2021 Bridging the Divide seed grant. The $25,000 award will be used to investigate methods of expediting post-disaster safety assessments of structures.
