Award Description: ECpE grad student Seonghun Son (Hun) is advancing hardware and systems security with papers at top-tier conferences and industry recognition. In joint work with his advisor Dr. Berk Gulmezoglu, Hun’s paper was accepted to ASPLOS 2025 with a 19 percent rate. He made a connection with Purdue University and discovered security vulnerabilities in AR and VR devices; this work was accepted to NDSS 2026. Seonghun also received a Meta Bug Bounty in June 2025 for reporting AR/VR vulnerabilities in Meta’s AR/VR devices. Moreover, he won the Best Poster Award at the Midwest Security Workshop in October 2024 by presenting AI AI-based mitigation method. Son served as a long-term former tutor for the CyMath program at Iowa State.
