Department of Aerospace Engineering advisor Andrew Albaugh has been honored for his work with department learning communities for undergraduates.

Albaugh received the 2025 Early Achievement in Learning Community Coordination Award. He was honored at the Learning Communities Institute event May 19, where Iowa State University Learning Communities Director Jennifer Leptien presented the award. The award recognizes an individual faculty or staff member who has demonstrated outstanding performance in learning community coordination early in their professional careers.

Andrew began serving the department’s undergraduates in early 2023. The AerE learning community programs include: the Course-Based Learning Community (designed for first-year students, 301 members in 2024-25); the Residential Learning Community Program (takes place in Helser Hall, 39 members in 2024-25); and the Upper-Level Learning Community (coordinated between aerospace and English departments, 122 members in 2024-25). The department’s learning community also typically employs 14 students as peer mentors.
