Jakob D. Hamilton named John B. Slater Professor of Sustainable Design and Manufacturing

Author: Cyclone Engineering

Jakob D. Hamilton, assistant professor of industrial and manufacturing systems engineering, has been named John B. Slater Professor of Sustainable Design and Manufacturing.

Hamilton joined Iowa State in 2023 and has quickly developed an innovative research group that specializes in understanding additive manufacturing process phenomena via in-situ imaging and developing new applications for dissimilar and bimetallic metal printing. He is also interested in advancing CNC manufacturing. In the classroom, Hamilton focuses on “teaching how cool manufacturing is.”
Hamilton earned a doctorate and a master’s degree in industrial and systems engineering from the Rochester Institute of Technology and a bachelor’s degree in engineering science from Wartburg College.

John B. Slater, a 1943 graduate of Iowa State University’s industrial engineering program, endowed the John B. Slater Professor of Sustainable Design and Manufacturing to recognize faculty who exhibit a passion and excellence for undergraduate teaching and influencing students and who specialize in the field of sustainable manufacturing and design tooling.
