Zhaoyu Wang Named IEEE Fellow

Electrical and computer engineering Professor Zhaoyu Wang has been named a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) in the 2026 IEEE Fellows Class. He also is an IEEE PES Distinguished Lecturer.

Wang is being honored “for contributions to conservation voltage reduction and networked microgrids in electric power distribution systems.”

The highest degree of IEEE membership, the grade of Fellow is conferred upon Senior Members with outstanding records of accomplishments in any of the IEEE fields of interest. Accomplishments being honored have contributed to the advancement or application of engineering, science and technology, bringing the realization of significant value to society at large.

Wang’s previous awards include the National Science Foundation CAREER Award, IEEE Power and Energy Society (PES) Outstanding Young Engineer Award, Iowa State University Award for Mid-Career Achievement in Research, Northrop Grumman Endowment, Iowa State College of Engineering’s Early Achievement in Research Award and the Harpole-Pentair Young Faculty Award Endowment.

He is the lead Principal Investigator for over $24M projects funded by the National Science Foundation, Department of Energy, National Laboratories, PSERC and Iowa Economic Development Authority.

Wang also serves as the Secretary and Technical Committee Program Chair (TCPC) of IEEE Power System Operation, Planning and Economics (PSOPE) Committee; Chair of IEEE Distribution System Operation and Planning Subcommittee; Secretary of IEEE Task Force on IEEE P3102 Standard for Conservation Voltage Reduction (CVR) Data Collection and Management Procedures and Chair of IEEE Task Force on Advances in Natural Disaster Mitigation Methods.

He currently is associate editor of IEEE Transactions on Sustainable Energy, IEEE Power Engineering Letters and IET Smart Grid.
