Award Title: Rouyu Meng publishes on quantum Info theory in the most well-regarded IEEE Transactions (IEEE Trans. on Information Theory)
Award Category: Recognition Award
Award Description: Electrical engineering grad student Ruoyu Meng and his advisor Dr. Aditya Ramamoorthy have published the following paper: Ruoyu Meng and Aditya Ramamoorthy, “Quantum advantage in zero-error function computation with side information“, IEEE Trans. on Information Theory, 2025
We consider a scenario where there are two geographically distinctly located entities (Alice and Bob) that locally observe some phenomena. Bob wants to compute a function of their observed quantities. The fundamental quantity of interest is the minimum amount of information that Alice needs to send so that this can be done with no error. We consider two settings: Alice transmits classical bits, and Alice transmits quantum bits. We demonstrate that there exist scenarios for which quantum transmission is significantly more efficient as compared to classical transmission.
