Justin Dillon: Outstanding senior in agricultural engineering
Author: Cyclone Engineering
Author: Cyclone Engineering
Clubs and activities: National FFA Organization and the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE)
Valuable hands-on learning experience: My co-op and internships. Manufacturing experience and network connections opened a variety of engineering internship opportunities. The time spent wrestling real-world engineering challenges was more interesting to potential employers than my grade point average or club involvement.
Most influential mentors: I’ve been fortunate enough to have some great coworkers a couple years older than me. They’re full of engineering advice, wisdom and they helped me find my place in industry while showing me the ropes at my job.
Favorite memory: My best memories at Iowa State are the countless laughs with friends I’ve made along the way here in Ames.
Plans after graduation: I’ll be working as a full-time design engineer in northeast Iowa and farming with my family.
Making my mark on the world: I’ve had great coworkers willing to shape a student into a junior engineer by explaining concepts, industry practices and a bevy of detail-oriented topics. I hope to gain enough engineering knowledge and wisdom that I’m able to do the same for young engineers.
Engineering like a Cyclone Engineer: The Iowa State focus on the practical application of engineering makes its engineering program an industry leader. Employers know Cyclone Engineers stand out, not only from a solid foundational toolset but also for well-versed communication skills, problem-solving and hands-on experiences.
